 Titel: Hummingbirds Series: Pure Urban Artist: Rodrigo Izolag, Children at risk foundationLocation: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Material:Stencil, Graffiti, Acryl on canvas Some of the girls in the favela proudly display their newly acquired Afro-Brazilian hairstyles done by youth workers during their visit to the community. The photo, on which this painting is inspired was taken in the poorest of favelas (Sitio Joaninha) in the Rio de Janeiro region, during a Beija-Flor na Comunidade (Hummingbird) programme. The goal of this programme is to educate streetkids on health, environment, making a living, nutrition and social contact. Favelas cut deep into the rare rain-forests and create extremely dangerous situations by eroding the mountains. |

The kid in the painting, Vando, was abandonned when he was only a few weeks old. Both have since died from their tragic lifestyle. Vando was adopted and is doing well. Unforutnately, Vando is paying a high price for his mother alcoholism, which is interfering with his natural development due to FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome). |
